Abstract
Androgen abuse is increasingly frequent among sportsman and would appear to concern 80% of bodybuilders. The use of anabolic steroids increases the muscle mass at doses equivalent to about 500 times the therapeutic dose. There is a real risk of morbidity and mortality, not known to sportsmen and only poorly known to healthcare personnel. The purpose of this article is to increase awareness concerning screening for androgen abuse and surveillance of the adverse effects of these practices.
