Fertilizing ability testing in assisted fertilization
Andrologie volume 2, pages 58–60 (1992)
Abstract
It is now possible to evaluate each specific function of the spermatozoon by diagnostic testing. These tests, which are correlated with the outcome of male factor IVF, are unnecessary in routine practice. However, they are highly relevant in cases of repeated fertilization failure at IVF, allowing the detection of a specific defect in one of the component processes of fertilization which facilitates the decision as to whether to either abandon further attempts or continue with assisted fertilization treatment. Such testing must allow selection of the appropriate sperm preparation and microinjection methods and also clarify the indications, contraindications and risks of these techniques which, for the present, remain in the research domain
