Abstract

The transurethral micro-wave heating of benign prostatic hypertrophy is going to be evaluated in our country. The French Urological Association is coordinating that work, the conclusions of which will be given in 1992. Our preliminary impression is positive: good tolerance, few complications (urinary retention), significative improvement of symptom score, conservation of sexual activity, with normal ejaculation. Further evaluation has to define the objective effect on the gland, and the evolution of the urodynamic parameters (peak flow and post-residual volume).

Le traitement de l’hypertrophie bénigne de la prostate par micro-ondes (hyperthermie ou thermothérapie) est en cours d’évaluation dans notre pays. L’Association Française d’Urologie coordonne ce travail dont les conclusions seront données en 1992. Notre première impression est favorable: bonne tolérance, peu de complications (rétention), amélioration significative des signes fonctionnels, conservation de l’activité sexuelle, avec éjaculation normale. Il reste à bien préciser l’action objective sur la glande, et le devenir de la prostate “chauffée”.
